If you, like many of us, have found yourself working from home and will be continuing to do so for a while, it’s time to make yourself comfortable. It’s time to move your stuff from the dining room table and get busy making your own space.
First off, pick a space. Maybe it’s a backroom in your basement or a spare bedroom. Pick a room that will give you the space you need to work comfortably, and preferably with some natural light. Repaint it to give you a calming soothing feeling, soft blues, and mid browns work best and get ready to prepare your workspace. Here are our top five things you NEED in your home office.
Do you have a space in your home that doesn’t quite fit the bill and could use some work? Or maybe you’re considering adding on to your home to accommodate a home office? We can help with that too!!
- A good chair. Do some research, get out to a store if you can, and try them out, but make sure that you have a good solid comfortable chair. You’re going to spend hours a day sitting. You best be comfortable.
- A great desk. You’re going to need space for your equipment, and paper, and anything else you might use in the run of a shift. An L shaped desk is ideal, but don’t count out the option of a sit/stand desk!
- A Second Monitor. With the number of systems and windows that we open in the run of a day, a second monitor is not only highly recommended, but it’s practically essential. Try to get your hands on two of the same model so that you have the experience on both screens.
- A Good Periphery. Mouses and keyboards often fall by the wayside as “extra things” but a good keyboard and mouse can help save your hands a lot of trouble! Look for the ergonomically designed options; those will do you a world of good over time.
- A Few Good Plants. A dash of colour, some reduced stress, and some increased productivity are all benefits of having plants in your office! The spider plant, dracaena, ficus and Boston fern are particularly well known for their air filtering qualities, and their ease of care!
