While redoing your kitchen, or finishing your basement might not be on your radar, painting the interior of your home might be! While choosing colours might be at the top of your list, we’re going to leave that part to you. We want to talk to you about the TYPES of paint to use. While the idea of a steady coat of semi-gloss all throughout the home might seem easy, it might not be your best choice. Almost every room in your house is going to require a different type of paint, more commonly known as a “finish”. The finish you choose depends on which room you want it in.
Kitchen:
A lot goes on in your kitchen, from get-togethers to meal prep, which means you’ll need a durable and easy-to-clean finish. We recommend a high gloss or semi-gloss finish for your kitchen space. High-gloss paint is hard and ultra-shiny, meaning that while it will last and clean well, it also shows every imperfection so you don’t want to skimp on your prep with gloss paint.
Living Spaces:
Your living room, rec room, or family room all tend to be high traffic areas. That means in these spaces, you’re going to need a finish that’s easy to clean, and can stand up to that traffic. While brush and roller strokes can be easily visible, it remains easy to clean meaning it’s a high durability option.
Dining Room:
Your dining room, while used daily, doesn’t usually count as a high traffic area, so something clean and smooth-looking is what makes the most sense here. And eggshell finish has medium durability with a flat finish, much like an egg. It covers wall imperfections well and is great in a room that doesn’t get a lot of bumps and scuffs.
Bedroom:
A finish with the most pigment means that it absorbs light, rather than reflecting it, meaning that imperfections are almost impossible to see. Where a bedroom is where we spend a good portion of our lives, it does count as a low traffic area, meaning that bumps and scuffs are less likely to happen, but can have a negative effect on your finish if they do.
