Renovations can take on a lot of different looks. We all know the major things: New counters, new storage, and new flooring. As with most things, though, some other renovation ideas do get overlooked. Take your kitchen for example. We know that adding storage space to an island and updating the countertops can make a big difference when renovating, but what are we missing?
Lighting: When discussing your renovations with your contractor, don’t skip over your lighting. Take this opportunity to not only modernize the fixtures but consider placement as well. Is the light centered properly over the island? Or do you want it closer to the oven and stove to give more lighting while you’re cooking! Whatever you do, avoid under-cabinet lighting strips. They’re relatively inexpensive, but they really don’t look good.
Paint: If you’re not renovating to sell, but doing so for your own comfort, think on your paint colour. Using modern colours can help revitalize your kitchen, making it look modern and clean. Consider brighter colours, an accent wall, or a neutral colour with bright stripes or patterns.
Fixtures: Similar to your lighting fixtures, a beautiful kitchen fixture, like faucets and pull handles, can really be a huge addition to the overall look and feel of your kitchen, for only a fraction of your budget!
Countertops: Now, we’re not saying you have to get marble countertops, although they are beautiful. That being said, you really don’t want to cut corners when it comes to your countertops. Upgrading to granite or quartz not only gives you a better countertop, but it also gives you a boost in the value of your home. A lot of home buyers are actively seeking out stone countertop, so give yourself a head start.
Cabinets: Instead of completely replacing kitchen cabinets, which can come with an exorbitant cost, consider refacing them. Keep the cabinets you currently have, and spend a fraction of the cost of replacing them outright.
