Summer is wonderful as it gives us the opportunity to spend time outside with beautiful weather. Here on the east coast, we get to visit local beaches, national parks, or just be together with our friends and family in our backyards. Sometimes though, the heat can become unbearable, especially indoors. What can we do to keep cool? Check out our list.
First of all, the easiest answer is to get yourself a heat pump. Low cost to use, and can keep your whole home cool all summer long, and then doubles as a heat source in the winter. That’s not really a hack, but definitely the easiest way.
Freeze Your Pillow
One oft-heard complaint is how warm pillows get after our heads have been on them for a while. You can help this by literally putting your pillow in the freezer for 10 minutes. This will cool down the pillow hopefully giving you enough time to fall asleep.
Cool Down Drinks Fast
While a reverse microwave to cool down drinks and gazpacho is a long way away, you can still use some paper towels and your freezer to cool down your drink fast. Wet a paper towel, wrap it around your warm drink and put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. You’ll then have a wonderfully chilly beverage.
Use Less Appliances
Running appliances causes heat, which will warm up your home. Use the summer advantages of hanging clothing out to dry and grilling in your backyard to help keep your home cool!
Spin Ceiling Fans Counter Clockwise
By running your ceiling fan counterclockwise, the air is pushed down creating a wind chill like effect, helping you to feel cooler. And remember, the warmer it is, the faster the fan should spin to keep the temperature down.
With summer close by, we hope these hacks help keep you cool!
