While the beauty of hardwood flooring has been touted for decades, for some, the upkeep is just not worth it. Laminate flooring then becomes your best option. This isn’t the laminate flooring of years ago; this stuff is new, updated, and upgraded! With better quality and dozens of types of wood being represented, laminate flooring could be your best option.
First, let’s talk about the pros. We mentioned above, the quality of laminate flooring has increased over the years with manufacturers really upping their game. One great thing is the ease of installation. Laminate flooring comes in planks, or tiles and can be snapped together, so there is no need for hammers and nails.
Laminate flooring is installed over a thin foam cushion, meaning that it can be installed over most existing flooring and helps you avoid having to tear your current flooring out. Add in that no old-growth or exotic trees are sacrificed to give you the look you want, and you’ve got ease, and environmentally friendly!
Now, for the downsides; Even the highest quality laminate flooring is susceptible to moisture and water damage, so any rooms that the floor can get wet often, this is not a good option. Avoid kitchens, laundry rooms, any room with a sump pump or floor drain.
Laminate flooring cannot be refinished, so if you find it’s wearing down, or even if it’s as simple as not liking the finish anymore, you have to replace it. In the event of wearing out, check with the manufacturer about the warranty before you install. Higher quality flooring will have a better warranty. Do not buy cheap laminate flooring.
